The Real Winner of the Pacquiao/Mayweather Fight was the Periscope App

Live streaming apps are here. For those of you who haven’t heard, there’s a battle going on between Periscope and MeerCat to be the leader in real time live streaming apps.

periscope vs meercat

The Pacquiao vs. Mayweather Fight Saturday night was one of the biggest events of television history. The fight was being live streamed by a user on periscope and he had over 10,000 people watching him stream his TV. Another dude that was actually attending the fight and was live streaming it from inside the MGM Grand. That’s awesome. True Robing hood shit like Omar Little. Oh indeed. Too damn bad, because lawsuits comin’ Yo!

This live stream era of today is EXACTLY like the Napster/ Bearshare/ Limewire days way before the Pandora’s and Spotify’s of the world. These apps are the next big thing, so enjoy them now because it’s only a matter of time before they’ll start charging arms and legs for their services. The big bad suits are doing their best to shut this down, but the technology curve is miles ahead of the angry network executives. I’m actually really interested to see how this plays out for the movie industry, but we’ll just have to wait and see. I almost want to feel bad, but they all had it coming. Shape up or ship out. #PirateShipLife

h/t to the CEO of Twitter just tooting his own horn.
